Day 13 - Favorite Books

I have a confession to make. These days I don’t read as much as I used to. I can even go months without reading a book at all, whereas back in my school days, I could at least read two books in a week. I still love reading, I do. I guess these days I just find more pleasures in other things: music and TV series.

However, that doesn’t mean I don’t have favorite books. Yes, I said books, not only one book. It’s because whenever I’m in the mood to read (which happens once in a blue moon), I find myself pick up one of these books from the shelf and re-read some of my favorite parts. You could say that these are my comfort books.

Eleanor & Park - Rainbow Rowell
One of the loveliest, most beautiful books I’ve ever read. It’s just so heartwarming to witness the development of Eleanor and Park’s relationship. It never fails to put a smile on my face. I think the book did a good job of portraying a young love in its awkwardness and intimacy.

Pesan dari Bintang - Sitta Karina
The third book in the Hanafiah series. I’ve loved Pesan dari Bintang ever since I first read it in high school, which was more than ten years ago. At a glance, the idea of the story seems very simple, “What if you fall in love with your best friend?” Yet, there are so many layers of conflict hidden underneath it. SO GOOD.

This one is not a novel, but I wouldn’t say this book is a collection of poems either. It consists of so many beautifully written words; some are long, some are short. They are divided into several sections that reflect on different aspects of life. I usually read this book when I need some encouragement.

There are still other books that have become my favorites, but those three are at the top of my mind. I don’t know when I’m going to get out of this giant hole that is reading slump. I hope it won’t be too long because I can’t wait to find a new book to love.
